Episode 16.0 – Metalgrid

We interviewed up and coming metal band Metalgrid.  They are in the studio recording their debut CD Metalgrid. Meet the band members:

This is a great interview.  They talk about their first experience attempting to record in their garage, their decision to record in a professional studio, the girlfriends Ryan and Stefan need and much, much more.

The long awaited interview with David & Connie is finally posted.  For those of you that don’t know David is my uncle and Connie is my mother.  They were in CA a couple of weeks ago for a book launch.  The event went well.  Thank you to everyone that supported the event.

We spoke to David & Connie about what inspired them to become writers, asked them to tell us about their books and finally how they got published.  They both spent 20-30 years pursuing a traditional publishing deal before deciding to independently published their books.  If you are an aspiring author listen to this interview.  The last 10-15 min covers their experience with independent publishing.

Episode 14.0 – Canfield of Dreams

We interviewed the Canfield Family a few days ago and now it is time for all of you to hear it.  I had family in town that kept me extremely busy which is my excuse for posting this interview so late.  I hope all of you will forgive me.  However, you have to listen to the Canfields.  Are they crazy?  Insane? Lazy?  Adventurous? Opportunists?  You decide!  This family has had enough with the “traditional” way of living and doing things and are about to embark on what could be a life changing experience.  The Canfields are going to trade in a stable suburban life for the adventures of becoming vagabonds…Well, not all of them…Just mom, dad and little Fiona.  The two young adult children are remaining behind to continue the suburban way of life.

Podcast Episode 13.75 – Almost an Interview

This episode was our first attempt at a live show on Blog Talk Radio.  Meghan and I had scheduled author Sean M Poole, author of Gattorno: A Cuban Painter For The World. Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding as to the date and time of this interview and Sean never called in.  The result was that Meghan and I had to come up with things to say on the spot.  We will be rescheduling with Sean in the next couple of weeks.

The episode has been uploaded without any additional editing.  Meghan and I would like to incorporate fan participation so we tested out what it would be like using Blog Talk Radio.  What has your experience been with Blog Talk Radio?  Do you like it?  Would you call in?  We want to know.  In the meantime, enjoy the new show.

Dane’s music is a mix of new and old. His guitar playing is reminiscent of Santana and SRV, while the Motown era vocal work blends with a modern twist, grabbing your attention immediately. Whether he is doing a solo acoustic gig or playing with the full band, his talent is showcased both through his sultry original work and ability to play covers effortlessly. His own love for music and passion for live performance has come to fruition during his time as the front-man for rock/funk band Cuesta Drive. While singing, composing, and playing guitar for the band, Dane wrote and produced three records with Cuesta Drive. Their rigorous touring schedule and ever-expanding fan base led to national media attention on radio and television. For their first live TV appearance, the band was featured on Good Morning Sacramento in early 2009. Over the six years that Dane fronted the band, the surrounding press provided write-ups in Submerge Magazine, the Sacramento and Chico News and Review, Ink 19, Sac State Hornet, Evolution of Media and much more. Dane’s song “Pasatiempo,” received Honorable Mention by the Billboard World Song Contest in 2007, as one of the top 500 finalists. Tracks from ‘Distractions’ and ‘Where the Palm Trees Grow,’ received radio airplay on KWOD 106.5, 98 Rock and 100.5 the zone. NPR featured the band for a full 30-minute segment on “Insights, with Jeffery Callison.”

In February 2009, video producer Waymon Boone (Boondock Films) teamed up with Dane and the band to film a music video for the song “Rollin’.” The video was a huge hit on the web and established credibility both for the band and Dane as a songwriter/musician.

Dane’s distinct sound encompasses the range of his influences, taking cues from pop, jazz, rock, r&b, reggae, folk, soul, and blues. “Rock & Soul,” Dane’s solo debut EP – to be released in early 2010 – calls upon all of his immediate family members for their talent and support. Janel and Deena Drewis can be heard throughout the album on vocals, guitars, keyboards and percussion, while his parents, Dale and Janet Drewis, provide their vocal harmonies, flute accompaniment, and percussion.

Podcast Episode 13.0 – John Marchel:  “The Practical Gambler”

Disclaimer – Not sure what happened to the audio this time but I didn’t want to delay releasing our interview with John Marchel.  It doesn’t sound quite right.

We had the privilege of interviewing John Marchel.  He is an author, speaker, teacher and player.  He is also known as “The Practical Gambler”.  What kind of player is he? —-John Marchel is a casino player!

John has been playing successfully in casinos for over 25 years. He has played in Europe, Panama, Bahamas, Canada, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Reno, on Indian reservations, cruise ships and in over 350 casinos throughout the country.

Since 1988 John has conducted seminars and lectures about gambling all across the U.S. John is also an author of five books about gambling, and has written numerous magazine articles and is currently a columnist for three different gambling magazines. John also publishes The Gaming Bulletin, a free monthly Internet gambling newsletter at www.jme.com. The newsletter keeps subscribers alert to trends, information and winning techniques that allows them to be more successful when visiting casinos.

John remains a very active casino player which allows him to keep current on the ever-changing world of casino gambling.

Podcast Episode 12.0 – Bill Walker

Bill Walker is the Founder and CEO of Simplie Indie and Prismatic Publishing. His ambition is to build a new company dedicated to providing all the tools and resources necessary for Independent Artists to succeed. Bill is a composer and musician and last but NOT least he is the Co-Host of the world renown podcast  The Bill and Meghan Show.

Bill started taking piano lessons when he was seven and started improvising a short time later. After much experimentation he discovered that his true interest was in piano/instrumental music. Bill has recorded and released one CD, Age of Discovery. He is currently working on his CD which will be titled Moments of Reflection. Unlike his first recording, which is fully orchestrated, this 2nd CD will be a solo piano recording.

This is the first podcast from our new PROFESSIONAL recording studio, Granite Park Recorders. I’m never out of words… and I was speechless when I first laid eyes on our new home. WOW! This place is a dream.
